On the one hand, Mr. Dernoga paints a completely different picture from what we've read in the press, which seems to have served us very poorly on this issue. I've been especially disappointed that the Post coverage by Ms. Helderman, and to a lesser extent Ms. Wiggins and Mr. Wagner, has been so weak on representing both the council point of view and the desire of some voices for a fiscally responsible solution.
But on the other hand, the council doesn't seem to have a real proposal on the table. If they have, they haven't made much effort to generate public support for it. If there is a council proposal that the press will not publicize, there are other ways to get the word out, but the council does not seem to be very effective at using the Internet as an alternative to the mainstream media.
