  1. TRIM UNDER SEIGE AGAIN - Must See Channel 8 TRIM/Property Tax Increase Debate, News Talk, April 21, 2015, Bruce DePuyt, Moderator, between Tom Dernoga, former councilman & Curtis Valentine, school board member (hope the link works)

On Channel 8, News Talk, hosted by Bruce DePuyt (April 21), Tom Dernoga, a former PG councilman, did a wonderful job dispelling the myths put out by the political elite to overturn TRIM.Thanks, Tom.

County Exec Rushern Baker, using authority from the state legislature (SB848-2012), proposed raising property taxes (15%), telephone and hotel taxes. SB848-2012 gave charter counties and Baltimore the ability to bypass their voters and the laws they enacted regarding tax caps.

Baker's proposed 2016 budget overturns our charter and voter approved tax caps (TRIM) as well as voter approval of new taxes. Mr. Baker and the state legislature (Only 2 legislators voted no (Barbara Frush & Joseline Pena-Melnyk (d-21)) are in the process of taking our rights, our will as expressed at the ballot box, and are using the children as a red herring. Every time they want money, they use the kids, and then Dr. Maxwell, PG School CEO, hires 14 new administrators.

Don't be fooled. Get the facts from the Channel 8 April 21 debate. You'll be surprised to hear with our ad valorem taxes we pay over $.30 more per $100 than Montgomery County for property taxes. Do you feel like you are getting your monies worth?

Call the county council and let them know how you feel about overturning the will of voters. The decision is in their hands now. Mel Franklin, Chair, 301-952-3820; MFranklin@co.pg.md.us

Our thanks to Del Barbara Frush and Joseline Pena-Melnyk for their courageous "NO" vote against the measure. One other legislator was absent (Turner).

Our thanks to Bruce DePuyt for airing both sides of the TRIM issue.
