School board member’s court case dealt a setback

School board member Linda Thomas’ lawsuit seeking reinstatement to her job as principal at Kingsford Elementary School was dismissed Feb. 2 by Judge Ronald D. Schiff in Prince George’s Circuit Court.

Thomas has maintained that her employment was terminated illegally in 2004. She was elected to the school board in November representing District 4, which includes Oxon Hill and Fort Washington.

In 2004, according to a state Board of Education ruling, Thomas failed to answer questions of ‘‘alleged improper use of school facilities and improper accounting for money collected from parents.”
When Thomas failed to appear at a 2004 Human Resources department conference, then schools CEO Andre Hornsby recommended her termination and placed her on unpaid administrative leave. Instead, Thomas agreed to resign and receive payment for leave she had remaining, state documents show.
