(Updated 19 Feb 2006)
  • Damages Reduced in Md. Police Shooting; Unarmed Student Killed After Chase Into Va..
  • A Circuit Court judge yesterday reduced by $1.2 million the amount a civil jury had awarded to relatives of an unarmed college student who was fatally shot by an undercover Prince George's County police corporal more than five years ago.

At the request of county attorneys, Judge James J. Lombardi threw out the $1 million the jury had awarded to the mother of shooting victim Prince C. Jones Jr. and the $200,000 it had awarded his father. Because the shooting occurred in Virginia, that state's law applied, and Virginia law does not allow parents to recover damages in wrongful-death lawsuits, Lombardi said
  • Award To Dead Man's Family Reduced.
