"Enrollment Declines in County Schools for Second Straight Year"
Post, December 22, 2005 (by Nick Anderson, Washington Post Staff Writer)
Every year, parents vote with their feet in choosing where to send their children to school. The results from this informal election held in August and September in Prince George's County are now in.
The public school system had 133,342 students enrolled as of Sept. 30, county officials have told the state, according to pupil accounting director William Greene Jr. That's down from last year's figure -- 136,095 -- and well below the school system's original projection of more than 139,000 students for this academic year. The total is also about 500 students fewer than the first enrollment snapshot released several weeks ago. It's the second straight year of enrollment decline for county public schools.
