A panel examining ways to strengthen ethics in Prince George's government will hold its first meeting Jan. 29.

The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at Prince George's Community College's Largo Student center, second floor, in Community Room B.

The Accountability, Compliance and Integrity Advisory Board, chaired by former Baltimore Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke (D), will examine current county practices for overseeing ethics in government and will research others. One of the panel's key tasks will be to determine whether the county needs an independent inspector general's office, which County Executive Rushern L Baker III (D) said during his campaign he wanted to create.

Other members named by Baker to the panel are: Patricia G. Adams of Annapolis, an attorney and member of the Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission; Linda Botts, owner of ASHLIN, a Greenbelt-based management company and a top aide to former County Executive Wayne K. Curry (D); and former county council chairman Peter Shapiro (D) of Hyattsville, founder and director of the Chesapeake Center for Public Leadership. Retired Prince George's County Circuit Court Judge William D. Missouri is vice chairman.

The panel's first session had been planned for Jan. 12 but was canceled due to bad weather.
