Md. Police, FBI Probe City Force in Pr. George's; New Carrollton Chief On Leave; Abuse, Theft By Officers Is Alleged.

New Carrollton's tiny municipal police force was in disarray yesterday, its chief on leave and the department under investigation after a group of subordinate officers alleged that other members of the force embezzled money, assaulted a suspect in custody and falsified reports about seized evidence.

The department, formed three years ago largely to curb car thefts and parking violations in the Prince George's County city of 12,000, is now under investigation by Maryland State Police and the FBI, according to city officials and sources close to the investigations.
