Subject: HB 1360 passes the House of Delegates. Melony Griffith (District 25) sole vote in opposition
Great News! HB 1360 passed the Maryland House of Delegates by a vote of 139 to 1. The sole vote against HB 1360 was Melony Griffith [tag] (District 25).[Note: More on Del. Griffith.]
This Black, female legislator did not support the restoration of the right of the people in Prince George's County to elect school board members from nine-single districts as they had for more than 25 years prior to 2002. This is not only an act of disrespect and disdain for the community, but a reaffirmation of her preference to maintain the status quo - political allegiances, political arrogance - over accountability to her own constituents. She has obviously forgotten the historical struggles to obtain voting rights and our modern-day right to maintain them. Remember this vote in September, 2006.
