YOUR PRESENCE IS [REQUESTED] REQUIRED!!!

Things are moving fast. We need you at two important events, one today (Thursday) in upper Marlboro and another tomorrow (Friday) in Annapolis. Please attend both of the following events, if you can--or at least one of them. To be credible, we need to show we care. The fate of legislation for a school board elected from 9 single-member districts hangs in the balance.

EVENT 1.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 7:00 P.M.
BOARD OF EDUCATION WORK SESSION
SASSCER BUILDING, UPPER MARLBORO

The APPOINTED BOARD is trying to stay in power by extending its own existence through state legislation.

At its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, February 2, the Board plans to pass a resolution calling for as long an extension as it can get AND recommending a combination appointed/elected board to provide "continuity. " Extension means disenfranchisement!

Plan to attend, and sign up to speak against the resolution. Call the Board Office at (301)952-6308 by 4 p.m. Thursday to register to speak!

BOARD MEMBERS WHO WANT TO STAY IN OFFICE SHOULD LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE WHETHER THEY HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB.

An amendment to extend the term of the current board offered by Delegate Davis was defeated by the County Affairs Committee today, February 1. The board's resolution is part of an attempt to revive the extension. Don't let that happen.

OPPOSE ANY EXTENSION OF THE APPOINTED BOARD.
CURRENT BOARD MEMBERS SHOULD EITHER STAND FOR ELECTION OR STAND DOWN!

EVENT 2.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 9:00 A.M.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY HOUSE DELEGATION MEETING
LOWE HOUSE OFFICE BUILDING, ROOM 150
ANNAPOLIS

The Delegation's County Affairs Committee has approved the bill to return the school board to 9 members each elected by the voters of a single local district. The committee has sent the bill to the full delegation for a final vote. The public is not permitted to speak, but AMENDMENTS TO GUT THE BILL STILL ARE POSSIBLE, AND YOUR PRESENCE WILL HELP ASSURE THAT THE DELEGATION PASSES THE BILL INTACT.

BY BEING THERE YOU WILL BE SAYING TO THEM,
"DELEGATES AND SENATORS, KEEP YOUR PROMISE!"

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CALL CITIZENS FOR AN ELECTED BOARD AT 240/460-5748.
