- Vote for those leading county in right direction
- Gazette, 12 Jan 2006 (Letter to editor from Carla J. Smith-Brown)
. . . Why are murders, carjackings and other serious crimes at an all-time high level? Why is the police force so sorely understaffed and underfunded? What could be more important than protecting our lives and property?
Why do the county schools traditionally fall below every jurisdiction in Maryland except Baltimore in standardized test scores, graduation rates and other indicators?
[. . .]
And with all of the mega-churches springing up in the area, I cannot in good faith . . . let the clergy off lightly either. They’ve built their buildings on tax-exempt property. Where is the reinvestment in the communities they serve? . . .
We clamor for more restaurants and high-end retail, but would you want to locate your business in this county? We need to take a look in 2006 at what’s been done and what hasn’t been done, and when we go to the ballot box in November, vote for those who have a strategy to get the county pointed in the right direction.
