A Greenbelt man convicted of fatally stabbing his girlfriend and stealing her car was sentenced yesterday to 15 years in prison by a Prince George's County judge.

Circuit Court Judge E. Allen Shepherd sentenced Kevin M. Tinsley, 39, for the Nov. 28, 2004, death of Doreen McClendon, 37. McClendon was attacked less than nine hours after a District Court commissioner denied her request for a protective order against Tinsley.

On Sept. 20, a Circuit Court jury acquitted Tinsley of first- and second-degree murder and assault charges. The jury convicted Tinsley of manslaughter and car theft.

In her unsuccessful application for a protective order, McClendon wrote that she told Tinsley she wanted him out of the Greenbelt apartment they shared with her four children and toddler grandson.
