Michael Steele ought to have Hiram Revels on his mind.
Steele, Maryland's Republican lieutenant governor, is expected to announce his candidacy Tuesday for the U.S. Senate seat that is being vacated by Democratic Sen. Paul Sarbanes. If he wins the 2006 election, Steele will be the state's first black U.S. senator — and just the sixth black ever elected to that body."
