I agree. This is not acceptable. We must act to stop the damage and get the authorities to renovate/improve the library's physical facility and its collections. It is said that one can gauge the quality of life in a community and county by the quality of its libraries.

Join me in writing immediately to the following persons/offices to rectify the situation. I am doing this iommediately. (If we don't who will?):

• the County Executive (countyexecutive@co.pg.md.us),
• the Director of Central Services (Pam Piper, Director, OCS, (301) 883-6450, Fax: (301) 883-6464, RMS Building (Suite 336), 1400 McCormick Drive, Landover, MD 20774)
• The County Ececutive's education and library liaison, Dr. Walt Dozier (wldozier@co.pg.md.us),
• the County Council
• the Director of Prince George's Memorial Library System ( see http://www.prge.lib.md.us/) and
• the Director of the Oxon Hill branch.

A pertinent South County community organization (maybe "Friends of the Library?" may want to take the lead on this. However, a group of us parent education advocates may want to join together and request a meeting with the Director of OCS (in charge of repairs to county facilities).

She is accessible and I understand that she regularly meets with vendors every Wednesday by appointment during Vendor Relations Day each Wednesday between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 PM. The number to call to schedule an appointment is (301) 883-6450.

Libraries, like schools and public safety, are a countywide quality of life issue. One bad apple does affect all of us. Thanks.
